Don’t Let the Enemy Hijack Your Desires

Desire is a strong feeling of wanting to have something or wishing for something to happen.

As you walk with the Lord, wisdom and discernment are important because the enemy hears your prayers, too. The enemy knows how to package the look of our desires so that they mimic the will of God.

Psalm 37:4-5 says delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your ways to the Lord, trust in Him, and He will act.

The enemy hijacks our desires by manipulating the mind, especially when things don’t happen as planned. The enemy uses moments or seasons of delay to insight fear or implicate that God will not do what He promised. When that happens, we often take matters into our own hands to make things happen for ourselves. This is the beginning of idolatry. We start to obsess over a thing because we think we have all the power and might to control it. Instead of God being the focus of our lives, the things we want and want to accomplish become the focus. Instead of trusting God with His plans for our life, we make the plans and they try to fit God into it. When our plans don’t work out, we want to blame God for the shambles we are in, and God is saying, that wasn’t my plan; that was yours.

Indeed Proverbs 16:9 says a man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord determines his steps.

We tend to focus more on our plan, instead of focusing on the Lord determining our steps. The enemy hijacks our desires by manipulating the mind into thinking that our plans are better than God’s plans. He hijacks our desires by making us think our lives are more about us than about God and His will for our lives. We idolize these plans by trying to manipulate our way into things that God otherwise would say no or not yet. We become so immersed in the dreams, goals, and desires of our lives that we forget to ask God what He thinks. Before you know it, the dreams, goals and plans are your god, and not God himself.

Don’t let the enemy make a fool out of you. Don’t let your desires make a fool out of you. God’s way is always the best way. Sometimes, trusting God isn’t easy, but trusting God is better than agony, fear, worry, and pain that could have been avoided. I remember asking God why about something that didn’t happen for me, and He said, “It was for your safety”. God knows the things we don’t know, He sees the things we don’t see, and He hears the things we don’t hear. That’s why He is God, and we are not. God is not mismanaging our lives as we might think sometimes.

Matthew 6:33 says but seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto.  God has everything we need and want in this life. In Matthew chapter 4, satan tempted Jesus too saying if you bow down and worship me, I will give you all of this. Jesus said all of this belongs to my Father. In the end, God still gave Jesus all the power. Don’t let the enemy make a fool out of you. Your desires are best when they are in God’s hand. The enemy can’t give you anything God hasn’t always promised you. May the Lord grant you the desires of your heart and fulfill your plans. You don’t need to hustle or toil your way to the top.  God promised and He will fulfill that promise. God will satisfy you.

Your heart’s desires are not something to merely throw in the wind, but I encourage you to find resolve in Philippians 4:6-7, “ be anxious for anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your request be known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your heart (your desires) and mind in Christ Jesus”.

This scripture is a declaration and a promise. God will protect and keep your heart desires close to His heart. He will keep them on His mind and when the time is right, He will make them happen. God loves you best, be encouraged.

Blessings flow.
