Watch Your Speed Limit

Have you ever traveled and witnessed a horrific car accident and wondered yourself, what happened? Has a car ever passed you fast, and when you got ahead, you found them stopped by a state trooper? Has a car ever passed you fast, and when you got ahead, you realized that the same car was in an accident or the person lost control?

Just imagine, that is what it is like when we don’t watch our speed and get ahead of God. My mom always told me that God knows what we do not know; he sees what we do not see and hears what we do not hear.

I am safe when I walk with God.

1 Corinthians 4:5 says judge nothing before its time until the Lord comes, who will bring light to hidden things of darkness and disclose the heart’s purpose.

In God’s shelter is where I am safe. However, running ahead of God destroys peace because you are always trying to figure it out or figure out what’s next.

When we don’t watch our speed, we are prone to accidents, deception, snares, and traps of the enemy. You’ve heard the saying that things are not always as they seem.  The enemy has a way of convincing us that we know what’s best. You may have had a few things that went well, or you’ve accomplished some goals, and suddenly, you know the way? One of the enemy’s greatest strategies is to convince us to abandon God’s plan for our own. He uses failed expectations and derailed dreams to convince us that God has failed or forgotten us.

God is omnipresent, but we are not. When we tend to get ahead of God, we operate uncovered and out of safety. The safety that God provides doesn’t just cover us physically but also covers us mentally and spiritually. God is ambidextrous, meaning He covers and protects us with both hands. God is multifaceted and multi-purposed regarding His will for our lives.  In Isaiah 41:10 it says God will uphold you with his righteous right hand. However, God’s left hand is not idle in our lives.

God’s protection keeps us safe from the speed bumps in life. That doesn’t mean we won’t experience speed bumps in life, but God will protect us as we go over them. You want to run, but God wants you to walk. God’s protection and safety keep us from harm, hurt, disappointment, and life’s accidents. There is no need to live life fast. Philippians 4:6 says to be anxious for nothing. God has given us everything we need to live this life. We don’t have to be anxious about reaching goals and achieving dreams because God encourages us that all things work together for the good of those who love Him. So, watch your speed. You don’t need to worry about how or when, just watch your speed.  You don’t have to worry about being behind in life, just watch your speed. As you pursue your dreams and goals, remember to let God order your steps because He knows the way you take.  He is aware of the speed bumps, accidents, and even delays ahead. He can divert and recalculate our routes so that we avoid unnecessary collisions. We must trust God fully and faithfully that we will arrive on time safely.

Romans 8:25 says that if we hope for what we do not see, we patiently wait for it.  Ecclesiastes 9:11 also encourages us that the race is not given to the swift. There is no reward for getting there fast. Pace yourself, watch your speed, and trust God fully and faithfully.

God’s promises don’t move, nor do they change. Don’t try to rationalize God’s timing against your natural timing. God’s way is not our way, nor His thoughts are our thoughts. Don’t let time and circumstances wear you out. We tend to experience more consequences when we step outside the will of God or, better yet, get ahead of God because of impatience. Not watching your speed and getting ahead of God is an act of disobedience. Be reminded that God is gracious, and He has ways to pull us back in line. He has ways to restore our covering.

Watch your speed.  I encourage you to ponder Isaiah 60:22, which says, when the time is right, I, the Lord, will make it happen. It’s a beautiful promise that God knows the way, and He knows what He is doing with our lives.

Be encouraged, blessings flow.
