Good morning Dreamers….
The goal is not to merely get ahead, but to grow and thrive as you live.
Something the Holy Spirit shared with me as I traveled ….
Traffic was heavy, and this car kept going in and out of traffic in the right lane trying to get ahead. I found myself watching this car hoping they’d get ahead with hopes there may be an opening for me to get ahead also. Unfortunately, this car got stuck in the lane they didn’t want to be in.
The Holy Spirit spoke to me saying, many times we fight to get ahead, but in the wrong lane. Often, we are so focused on getting ahead, that we don’t care how we get there. We must be careful in wanting to get ahead fast because we don’t know what’s to come. Often, we have our eyes on other people thinking how did they get ahead? How did they do this or that?! Indeed, they may be ahead, and things may seem to be progressing well for them, but they may be in the wrong lane.
What God has distinctively for someone else, may not be what He has for you. Sometimes, we focus so much on getting ahead that we lose sight of the right now. Sometimes, the season you’re in is exactly where God wants you to be. You can do your best right where you are until God moves you ahead. When we try to move ourselves ahead, just like that car, we may find ourselves stuck, in the wrong lane, missing opportunities because of impatience. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to get ahead just to get stuck; I don’t want to get ahead and be miserable and full of anxiety; I don’t want to get ahead and then have to re-route.
Tell somebody, mind the lane you’re in!
Instead of minding the lane I was in, I was busy minding someone else’s lane not realizing what was ahead for them. They got stuck! When this happens, you lose traction and defense for yourself. Ecclesiastes 9:11 says the race is not given to the swift.
Life is not about who gets there the fastest. This isn’t a marathon, it’s a relay. Pace yourself and learn to trust the hand and timing of God.
